TaskerSpotlight: Gulistan M.

Gulistan’s journey began many years ago on a vegetable farm in Afghanistan. Growing up amidst war and hardship, he started working at an early age to support his mother and to help make ends meet. Through that experience, he learned how to put all of his effort into his work. Since then, Gulistan has lived in other countries and the skills he’s picked up along the way have proved invaluable. Today, he is an LA & OC-area Tasker who helps his Clients with Moving tasks and more. Read on for his full story.

Why did you become a Tasker?

Tasking allows me to support my family while keeping a flexible schedule. Not only that, I get the chance to meet some really interesting people too.

How did you find out about TaskRabbit?

My wife first heard about TaskRabbit and suggested that I apply. Having worked on other platforms in the past, I can honestly say that TaskRabbit has been my favorite. If I ever have any issues, customer support is always quick to respond and they don’t just give a canned auto response, but rather personally address all of my needs.

Do you task part-time or full-time?

Full-time

How did you learn your skills?

I grew up in Afghanistan during the war. Life was very difficult, but thankfully I came up in a loving family. We lived together on a small farm and at the age of eight I started working in our family business to help support my mother. We didn’t have much, and trying to get by in that environment forced me to learn to do things on my own. During that time, I picked up many skills that still come in handy to this day.

What were your biggest learnings as you got started on the app?

I learned how to respond quickly to requests, which helped tremendously in getting tasks under my belt.

Can you share how you’ve built your career/business on TaskRabbit?

I always strive to perform my best. My aim is to make each of my Clients happy with my work and I treat every task with the same care that I would as if I were doing it for myself. My Clients have clearly noticed, because they continue to leave positive reviews and make referrals to other people.

Can you describe ways in which TaskRabbit has impacted your life?

TaskRabbit allows me to work on a flexible schedule and set my own rates. I’m in control of what I put in and what I get out. As a Tasker, I have time to spend with my wife and two young daughters.

Do you have a specialty that Clients hire you for?

I specialize in Moving tasks. I come equipped with all my equipment and even have a large truck that I use to help my Clients.

What makes you successful as a Tasker?

Because I grew up in Afghanistan and lived in other countries before moving to the US, I can relate to people from all over the world. I just really like connecting with people and helping others. I’m very diligent in all my tasks and strive to make sure all my Clients are happy. I think they recognize that and that feels good.

Do you have any suggestions for Clients who are looking to book a Tasker for the first time?

I would advise Clients to read Tasker reviews in order to determine who to hire. I also think it’s great for Clients to be clear with the Tasker about any specifics and details of what they need help with.

What are your personal interests or hobbies outside of tasking?

I’m a documentary filmmaker and producer. When I’m not doing that or tasking, I love spending time with my family.

Gulistan’s priority has always been supporting his family. While he was able to do that through prior experiences, it wasn’t until he found TaskRabbit that he finally had the freedom to also choose when he worked, on what, and for how long.
