Introducing TaskRabbit’s Newest Category: Volunteer

As a company built on the premise of neighbors helping neighbors, TaskRabbit’s founding mission has never been more relevant. We’re excited to introduce Tasks for Good—a program that, through a new Volunteer category, will allow you to help neighbors in need. In 70+ major metropolitan areas across six countries, volunteer Taskers can help those who are most vulnerable during this time of hardship—from delivering essential medication and picking up groceries, to passing out meals, and more.

The Volunteer category is an unpaid category through which you donate your time and skills to support your community. Clients in need, including vulnerable and at-risk individuals and organizations facing financial hardship, can connect with local volunteer Taskers for essential and important services.

How do I opt-in to the Volunteer category?

To opt-in and receive volunteer tasks, add the Volunteer category in your app. Make sure to write in your Skills & Experience pitch the ways you’re willing to help.

What kinds of tasks can I complete in the Volunteer category?

As a volunteer, you can pick up groceries and medications for immunocompromised or elderly neighbors; deliver masks, gloves, and other personal protective equipment; deliver meals from schools to students in need; board up windows for small businesses or community centers during “shelter in place” orders; shop for groceries—and more. Please be sure to follow applicable public health guidance and government regulations during the task. Clients have been instructed to do the same to protect their health and yours.

Where is the Volunteer category available?

Tasks for Good is available in the following locations in the US, Canada, UK, France, Germany, and Spain.

How do I invoice and submit expenses? Can I receive tips?

This is an unpaid category. Your rate in this category is automatically set to $0. When you finish the task, use the invoicing interface to mark the number of volunteer hours that you completed, as well as any expenses you incurred during the job (e.g. purchasing groceries for the Client). These expenses can still be reimbursed through the app as they normally would, when you submit your volunteer hours. Clients can tip you through the app after the task is completed, and can also leave reviews. Reviews in this category are subject to the usual review guidelines.

How do I set my availability for Volunteer tasks?

Like all tasks, Volunteer tasks are based on your map and availability. You will only receive volunteer opportunities during times and in areas that you have indicated you are available. Your Business Metrics may be affected by Volunteer tasks. If you feel that a Volunteer task is wrongly affecting your metrics, please reach out to Support. As a reminder, you are under no obligation to volunteer through the TaskRabbit platform.

If you have additional questions about volunteering through TaskRabbit, please visit our Support Center.

  1. Hi, Nathan! Great question. For the client community, we recommend visiting this page for more details: https://blog.taskrabbit.com/introducing-volunteer-help-for-those-in-need. Volunteer Taskers can be “hired” by clients through the TaskRabbit website (https://www.taskrabbit.com) or app like any other task.

For the Tasker community, you can sign up as a Volunteer in your Tasker app, or by clicking the link “Add Volunteer Category” in the article above.

    Thanks!
