#TaskerTuesday-Brian H.

Meet Brian H., a Tasker whose favorite way to unwind after a long day is well, tasking! He loves travelling to new parts of Chicago, working with his hands, and meeting new people—all while getting paid at the rate he sets for himself.

Once a Union Mechanical Insulator, Brian came to TaskRabbit for the schedule flexibility and better earning potential it provided him. Brian credits tasking with introducing him to some amazing Clients and allowing him to spend more time with his family at the end of the day.

What did you do for a living before becoming a Tasker?

I worked as a Union Mechanical Insulator.

What is the primary reason why you joined TaskRabbit?

To help pay down debt faster and to have a more flexible source of second income.

How do you market yourself to Clients?

I made business cards using the perk provided and I hand them out to any Client that I’d like to turn into a repeat customer. This really helps in keeping my business top of mind for Clients for the next task they need help with.

What is your best tasking memory?

Through TaskRabbit, I’ve been able to meet some incredible people! I’ve met the owner of a well-known Chicago restaurant called Alinea and one of the Chicago Fire soccer players from Argentina. I had to call my mother-in-law to translate between us which made both of us laugh, but was a great bonding experience. Another favorite Client I task for has a slide in their office (literally like going to work in a children’s playground!) and we always get a laugh when we choose “sliding” over taking the stairs.

What’s your top ice-breaker question you ask Clients? (If they’re present at the task)

I used to work in home services for 5 years and I’ve always found the best way to start the conversation is to describe how you’ll handle the task at hand, then find something in their home to compliment. If there’s any interesting decor, pictures, or furniture, let them know you noticed and it can blossom into a deeper conversation.

What is the most meaningful connection you’ve made through tasking?

Tasking has helped me learn how to build meaningful connections within my own personal relationships. It allows a great amount of flexibility and thanks to this, I can be there when family, friends, or my spouse need me. There’s no worry about being punished or fired, because owning my TaskRabbit business means I get  to call the shots and choose my own schedule.

How has TaskRabbit impacted your life?

I joined a Union Apprenticeship in November and took a large pay cut—until I found  TaskRabbit. TaskRabbit helps me tackle my debt quicker without working stressful hours, and the best part is that I get paid what I’m worth!

What’s your hidden talent?

I’m trained in muay thai/kick boxing.

What do you do to unwind?

Funny enough, tasking helps me unwind! I enjoy traveling around Chicago, meeting new people, working with my hands, and making money while I’m at it.

Since becoming a Tasker, Brian has not only deepened his relationships with family and friends, but has also cultivated new friendships with his Clients. Brian also has some incredible pieces of tasking advice, including how to form long-lasting relationships with Clients. Some of Brian’s advice we’ll never forget? Always choose the slide over the stairs.
