What did you do for a living before becoming a Tasker?

Sales Manager at IKEA.

What is the primary reason why you joined TaskRabbit?

I started it part-time as a “retirement job” to keep me busy and give me something to do. Now it’s grown into a full-time business—I’m definitely never bored!

What helped you accept and complete your first task?

I accepted the very first one offered—a KALLAX storage unit from IKEA. It felt serendipitous to have that as my first task after so many years working at IKEA corporate.

What is your best tasking memory?

There are so MANY great experiences with Clients, it’s difficult to pick just one. It may be accepting a same day task to assemble a bed for a Client who had just moved across the country. It was late, she was exhausted and had neglected to unpack or purchase any lamps yet. It was pitch dark in the room, but I still completed the task using the flashlight on my phone as the only source of light. She had her MALM bed ready to sleep on before long and was very appreciative. It felt rewarding to welcome someone to the city in that way!

What’s your top ice-breaker question you ask Clients? (If they’re present at the task)

I usually try to ascertain right away which pieces of furniture will be attached to the wall, and where they’ll be attached. This opens up conversations about their kids, and the opportunity to help them with furniture placement.

What is the most meaningful connection you’ve made through tasking?

I have met many wonderful Clients. Some have hired me so often that I think of them as friends, and no longer just Clients.

How has TaskRabbit impacted your life?

It’s allowed me to be “retired” yet still create income when and where I choose. Mostly, it’s allowed me to help others. That may be the best part of the job—helping others.

What’s your hidden talent?

I sing. Or maybe it’s no so hidden, as I often sing while I’m working on tasks.

We love how Victor has maintained a zeal for IKEA throughout his life, and how he now puts that knowledge to good use by helping out those in his community. For some lucky Clients his help could also mean a welcome committee to Baltimore and a live singing display—talk about a warm welcome!
