#TaskerTuesday – Jason W.

2089a9052100-8CB84D3A_597C_4F32_9B20_5B347EEEFC7DImagine that one day, you have a secure and steady job as a mortgage banker, and the next day, you don’t. This was what happened to Tasker Jason W., who was a mortgage banker in Kansas City before housing demand dried up.

When he found TaskRabbit, he approached it first as a temporary solution…but that soon changed once he realized how nice it was to have the flexibility the platform offered. Here’s what Jason had to say when we chatted with him:

What was your transition into becoming a Tasker like?

After months of searching for something both fulfilling and gainful, the “dream job” never materialized. Around the time my severance package started running out, I “discovered” TaskRabbit and have been hopping happily ever since!

What is your best tasking memory?

The most wonderful family tasked me with assembling a large, 6-drawer IKEA bed. The task took much longer than expected due to some glitches putting together the slabs, but that didn’t upset them in the least.  while I was toiling away, kept reassuring me that everything was fine and that they understood this wasn’t my fault, and left me a great review.

The whole experience left me with the warmest and most comforting feeling ever. They were an absolute dream to work with. Ironically enough, by the time I finished putting the bed together and had them check it out, it turned out the wrong bed was delivered! Again, they didn’t blame me; they just assured me that they truly appreciated my time. I never felt more valued at a job anywhere!

What types of challenges has TaskRabbit allowed you to overcome?

Forcing myself to stay in shape! I’ve been a chronic procrastinator when it comes to working out, always telling myself “tomorrow I’ll start” or “next week I’m definitely hitting the gym.” Now, I’m in a position where lifting things is my job. It’s a huge motivating factor when you can get paid great money for getting healthy.

What values and attitudes do you try to live by?

Hands down it’s treating others the way I’d prefer to be treated. And when I find someone being hostile, I try to remember that they are still human and maybe just having a bad day. Overall, it’s always best to stay positive no matter what. You can always find light at the end of the tunnel.

How has TaskRabbit improved or affected your life?

It keeps me busy! I love creating my own schedule, and honestly find myself working more because of that flexibility. However, if I need a day or two in a row off, I don’t need permission. It’s very liberating. Oh, and I love tasking in general. Everything from new Clients to interesting tasks make my life less repetitive and better overall.

What was the most rewarding thing about your transition to becoming a Tasker?

It’s giving someone a hand. When you are able to assist someone who may be incapable of performing a task, it’s a wonderful feeling to help them by completing their unfinished projects.

What advice do you have for other Taskers out there?

My advice is to go into every task as if you’re doing it for yourself, because in a way you are. You’re building your business and making connections that will pay in the long run. So keep a smile on your face, stay positive, work hard, and show your Clients how much you care. The rewards will soon follow!

Yes, we know they will. The rewards you can gain from TaskRabbit are many–from financial stability to new personal connections. Once you start building your tasking network, the opportunities are endless.
