What do you get when you mix ambition, passion, and attentiveness? You get Chris B., a Tasker whose work ethic speaks for itself based on his 100+ positive TaskRabbit reviews, and whose consideration for both his career and the people around him have helped him lead by example in his community.
An immigrant from Sweden, Chris had limited work rights when he first moved to New York City. Even after being authorized to work in the United States, he had trouble finding a job, despite his two university degrees. 1,500 qualified job applications later (still with no luck), he decided to embrace the freelance mindset and work for himself.
Chris, who also enjoys physical work and building things, tasks in the Furniture Assembly, Help Moving, Lift and Shift, Minor Home Repairs, and Mounting categories. When we chatted with him, he offered some great advice for Taskers and how they might level up in their skills, particularly in the Mounting category.
“Every Mounting task can turn out to be a challenge,” he said. “New York buildings are especially interesting. I’ve mounted TVs with four different solutions for the four different mounting fixtures—one in concrete, one in drywall, one in brick, and one in wood—all within a 16×8’’ area. Even so, mastering custom solutions like this gives me the greatest satisfaction!”
Chris’s advice didn’t stop there, however. He also wanted to share some overall tips with Taskers about working with Clients and making them feel as comfortable as possible. Here’s what he recommends:
-
Be aware that you’re a total stranger people are allowing into their homes—especially if your Client is female or has young children. If they feel comfortable, they will bring you back.
-
Take your shoes off, unless your Client tells you not to.
-
Knock on doors, ask permission to enter any private spaces, and always ask before using the bathroom.
Not only does Chris provide exemplary customer service to the Clients he tasks for, but he also lives by values that make us proud to have him on our platform. His values include:
- Be courteous and kind
- Do your best, always.
- Show empathy, and realize you don’t always know how other people are doing.
- Don’t take things too personally!
In the future, Chris hopes to advance further in the realm of construction industry safety—an area he is passionate about. Always one with a goal of improving the world around him, Chris gives us yet another reason to be delighted about the community that has grown within the TaskRabbit platform!
