Happy Mother’s Day!

At TaskRabbit, we are truly thankful for the endless love, comfort, advice, and care that our mothers have provided—and continue to provide—every day. Whether it was holding our hands as we took our first steps, bandaging scrapes on our knees when we inevitably fell, or always being our biggest cheerleader through life’s ups and downs, our mothers helped us become the people we are today.

Mothers, we wouldn’t be here without you, so thank you for all that you do—whether big or small —to make our lives better and happier! You’re all superheroes in our eyes, each and every one of you.

We are incredibly proud to have so many amazing mothers as Taskers on our platform. We understand how hectic and stressful motherhood can be sometimes, so we love hearing how our Taskers who are also mothers use TaskRabbit as a way to maintain flexibility to find time to spend with their kids.

To celebrate Mother’s Day, we asked a few of these incredible mothers to share with us what being a mother means to them.

What does motherhood mean to you?
Being a mother is the single most rewarding and wonderful thing in my life. I adopted my daughter Jessy as a single mother 20 years ago, which at that time was almost unheard of. Being the parent of an adopted daughter has grown a mother-daughter bond that is forever. Motherhood is eternal love.

How does being a Tasker impact you as a mother?
TaskRabbit has greatly improved our quality of life—it helps me to afford the little extras that I usually spend on the two of us. Jessy and I often use the money to have a dinner out, go on a shopping spree, or take a weekend excursion. In the early years, however, the money was spent to pay my bills. In that way, TaskRabbit saved my life!

What is your wish for other mothers all over the world?
Being a working mother is so tough but often necessary. TaskRabbit is a great way to work, because you are your own boss. I highly encourage mothers to give it a try to see how fantastic it is—it’s such a rewarding job, and there are always words of encouragement at the end of the day.

What does motherhood mean to you?
Being a mother is selflessness, love, and sacrifice. Being a mother is also a rewarding challenge. I’m constantly trying to find balance between caring for my son, my husband, and myself. These all require different roles.

How does being a Tasker impact you as a mother?
Being a Tasker gives me an outlet or distraction that mothers—especially mothers of young children—sometimes need. My Clients are all very interesting, and each project is a challenge in itself. It happens to also pay, which helps with the purchase of food and diapers. It’s perfect that I get to create my own schedule around family time and appointments.

What is your wish for other mothers all over the world?
I wish for other working mothers out there in the world find peace and balance in everything they do. Always find time for self-care. You can’t pour from an empty cup.

What does motherhood mean to you?
Being a mom, to me, is being able to meet my kids’ needs, and enjoy them at their current ages. They grow up too quickly, and I’ve missed out on a lot of their childhood, due to jobs that overworked and underpaid me, and left me feeling drained and grumpy when I did have “free” time.

How does being a Tasker impact you as a mother?
Working for TaskRabbit has enriched my relationship with my kids, by allowing me to set my own hours. I can adjust my schedule so I can take my kids to softball and soccer practice, attend meetings at their schools, and be there for them when they need me. My role as a Minor Home Repairs Tasker has also been a career move that both of my kids support and are proud of, as their life with an absentee father and divorced mother has not been a stable or privileged one. Now, I can afford to enroll them in sports, Scouts, swim team, etc.

What is your wish for other mothers all over the world?
My wish for other mothers is that they have a way to maintain healthy relationships with their children, even if it means finding a new line of work. I also wish all mothers could have access to simple instructional videos to fix things around the house, because it’s empowering to be able to fix your own home-related problems.

What does motherhood mean to you?
Being a mother means you play many different roles: cook, personal assistant, nanny, chauffeur, nurse, etc. However, I believe that the most important role a mother plays is that of nurturer. I am raising human beings that will one day become adults. I want to make sure that they grow up to be compassionate, interesting, and happy people who have a positive impact on the people around them.

How does being a Tasker impact you as a mother?
Not only am I able to provide a supplemental income for my family without sacrificing precious family time, but I have something in my life beyond my children that gives me self-worth. I feel pride for work well done, and gives it me immense personal satisfaction.

What is your wish for other mothers all over the world?
My greatest wish for working mothers would be that they can achieve a balance between a meaningful and fulfilling career, and a stress-free and joyful home life! Oh, and that they find time for self-care as well! Obviously, this is a difficult thing to do, but we can dream!

While we appreciate mothers every day, and on this Mother’s Day we want to take the opportunity—from our TaskRabbit family to yours—to tell all the mothers out there (Taskers and not) how much we appreciate their love and care!
